DON’T MISS THE DEADLINE! ALL ANNUAL WORKPLACE SKILLS PLANS ARE DUE 30th APRIL

Workplace Skills Plans (WSP) decipher the training and skills needs of a company, implement plans to fulfil these needs and ensure adherence to legislation requirements, they also provide SETA with the information it needs to compile a meaningful Sector Skills Plan especially for Scarce and Critical skills.

Once the organisation has submitted a duly completed WSP on time, a grant amounting to 50% of the levy will be paid to the organisation which includes amounts due for both the Annual Training Report (ATR) and the Work Place Skills Plan (WSP). This will ensure that organisations have funds that can be utilised for the implementation of training.

New B-BBEE Codes on Skills Development:

Companies (whose financial year ends after September) have to double their existing BEE training budgets from 3% to 6% of payroll, Skills Development is now a priority element with a 20 points weighting.

To avoid dropping a level in BEE status a company must achieve a minimum of 40% or 8 points of the target set out in the skills development scorecard.

You may claim back some of this Skills Development Tax if:

  • You have paid the SDL tax.
  • You provide approved training (internal/external) to employees that is aligned with Pivotal skills.

To support your claim you need to submit:

  • An annual training report which tells the SETA that training has taken place in your company in the last 12 months, and which employees received training.
  • A workplace skills plan that advises the SETA of the training you will provide in the next 12 months, based on your operational requirements, the industry you operate.
